A Free Book and an Impassioned Plea
by Julien Haller
On Saturday, January twenty-sixth, I will make my book, Stories of Who We Are and How We Eat, available for free on Amazon. This will be the second time I have done so, the first time being earlier this month when I was only able to give away sixty-seven copies. As you can probably deduce from that meager sum, my work has not been selling well. I’m sure my marketing strategy has been no help (i.e. tell no one I know about it because I’m afraid of the reaction they might have to my tell-all confession in the “Preface”); but, truth be told, I thought it would be going better than this.
So here’s the deal. I think my work is special. I might be wrong. It might be that my work is pure and unadulterated crap. But neither you nor I can know one way or the other unless you give it a chance. That’s all I’m asking: purchase it, or download it for free, and give it a chance.
I’m certain that this impassioned plea comes off as desperate (probably because it is the action of a desperate man), but with no friends, family, coworkers, or acquaintances even knowing the book exists, I have to rely on the open-mindedness of strangers. So please, download my work. It might just surprise you.

One reviewer’s thoughts on my work

Oh how I understand the challenges you may face when you create something, want people to see it, yet want no one to see it. Do not think of your work as something to be hidden.
I hope to not offend, but I would speculate that you also hide yourself from the world.
If you wish to not be seen, you won’t. Break the barriers down, realize that a simple blade of grass is just as beautiful as a rose. For if you hide forever, the world won’t be able to appreciate the love you have for yourself and your work. (And YES, the love IS there!)
Let it shine.
You would be painfully correct in your estimation. Most people only know me as the guy who always has a witty comeback. They don’t know just how far the rabbit hole goes, and I guess I am afraid of how they might react, mostly because I have never been comfortable with genuine conversations concerning my darker days.
Thank you for your comment and your encouragement. If nothing else, you have made this man smile today.
Sincerely,
Julien Haller
